Kurokabe Square is the general name for a corner of the old streets that continue along the Hokkoku Kaido Road. Centering on the "Kurokabe Glass Museum," a renovated old bank that has been nicknamed "Kurokabe Bank" since the Meiji era (1868-1912), the old streets are dotted with stores, workshops, galleries, hands-on classes, restaurants, cafes, and other attractive stores.
Keisoku-ji Temple is located in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, and is famous for its 200 maple trees. This ancient temple was built in 735 and was once prosperous and thriving. Although it is now abandoned, local residents still help maintain it. In autumn, the ground is covered with fallen red leaves, creating a spectacular sight that is truly unforgettable. This breathtaking scenery leaves a lasting impression.
Hikone Castle is one of the only five ancient castles in Japan whose main castle building has not been damaged. It is now included in the list of Japanese national treasures.
Right next to Kyobashi Bridge, which spans the moat of Hikone Castle. The townscape, which is unified in the style of townhouses with white walls and black latticework, is reminiscent of a castle town in the Edo period.
La Collina Omi Hachiman is a popular spot that should be visited at least once when traveling in Shiga. You can enjoy popular sweets in a photogenic space in perfect harmony with the rich natural surroundings.
Notogawa River Waterwheel and Canoe Land is the largest water mill in the Kansai area. A giant waterwheel with a diameter of 13 m is the landmark of this water park on the shores of Lake Ibauchi. There is a creek and a lawn area, and a reed colony zone.
In Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, "Hachimanbori" is a waterway that played an important role in ancient times as a means of transport and a place of living. The scenery handed down from the Azuchi-Momoyama period (16th to early 17th century) is still preserved.
"Biwako Valley" is located on a mountain at an altitude of approximately 1,100m on the shore of Lake Biwa. It is known for its ``Biwako Terrace'', a scenic spot with a panoramic view of Lake Biwa, but that's not the only attraction!
