What we look at before recommending a property

Location against the itinerary

A ryokan with a beautiful view is a poor base if it adds forty minutes to every following day. We pick bases that shorten the next morning, not just the one that photographs well.

Room configuration for the actual group

Triple rooms, connecting rooms and Japanese-style rooms with futons behave differently for families with teenagers, for two couples, or for a group with an older parent. This is where most self-booked trips go wrong.

Onsen and meal arrangements

Ryokan rates usually include dinner and breakfast, and the dinner slot is fixed. We check the timing against your arrival, and whether a private bath needs booking ahead.

How the booking works

We shortlist, you choose, and the reservation is made in your own name so that changes and cancellations stay in your hands. We stay involved for the itinerary details — check-in times, parking, luggage forwarding.
