Collection: FLIGHTS

Flights are the one part of a private journey we do not sell. We plan the itinerary, the hotels, the drivers and the guides — but air tickets are bought direct, in your own name, on your own card. What we do is make sure the flights you book actually fit the trip.

Below is how we think about flights, and a live fare search to compare options. Compare live airline fares →

Why we do not bundle flights

An air ticket bought through a tour operator is usually a consolidated fare: cheaper on paper, but rigid on changes, and the airline will point you back to the agent when a flight is cancelled. Booked in your own name, you deal directly with the airline — you can rebook, claim miles, and use your own status. For a journey that may be planned months ahead, that flexibility is worth more than the small saving.

What we do instead

We give you the flight brief for your route — which airports make sense, which arrival times work against the itinerary, where a layover costs you a day, and where it does not. Then you book, and we build the ground arrangements around your confirmed arrival.

Arrival timing matters more than fare class

A flight that lands at 21:00 in Tokyo Narita puts you in a hotel at midnight, and the first day of the trip is gone. The same route landing at 14:00 gives you an evening. On a seven-day itinerary, that is most of a day — worth more than a fare difference.

Open-jaw beats return

For Japan, flying into Tokyo and out of Osaka (or Fukuoka) usually costs about the same as a return to Tokyo, and removes a six-hour backtrack across the country. We plan routes around this wherever it helps.

Internal flights vs rail

Japan's shinkansen is often faster door-to-door than flying once you count transfers and security. For China, the opposite is usually true over long distances. We will tell you which applies to your route rather than defaulting to one.

Routes we plan most often

  • Hong Kong → Tokyo / Osaka: 4–5 hours direct; overnight departures exist and can save a hotel night, at the cost of a bad first day.
  • Hong Kong → Sapporo / Fukuoka: fewer direct options; a same-day connection via Tokyo is usually the practical choice.
  • Long-haul into Japan: arriving via Tokyo or Osaka, with an internal connection onwards — or an open-jaw into one and out of the other.
  • China: Shanghai and Beijing are the main gateways; regional connections are fast and cheap once you are inside the country.

Check live fares

We do not mark up air tickets, because we do not sell them. Search live fares and book direct →

Then send us your confirmed dates and we will design the ground itinerary around them — including the transfers, so nobody is standing at an airport at midnight working out the train.

Frequently asked questions

Can you book flights for me?

No. We plan everything on the ground and give you the flight brief; the ticket is bought by you, direct, in your own name.

What if my flight is delayed?

Tell us the flight number when you book the trip. We track arrivals and adjust the airport transfer; on a private tour there is no group to hold you to a fixed schedule.

Do you handle visas?

We publish visa and entry information for the countries we cover, but applications are yours to make. See our China visas & entry guides for the current rules.
