Tourist Attractions

Chikubu Island, known in Nagahama City as the "Island of the Gods," is located off the northern shore of Lake Biwa. The island is thought to have its benevolent spiritual energy and may even grant wishes.

Kurokabe Square is the general name for a corner of the old streets that continue along the Hokkoku Kaido Road. Centering on the "Kurokabe Glass Museum," a renovated old bank that has been nicknamed "Kurokabe Bank" since the Meiji era (1868-1912), the old streets are dotted with stores, workshops, galleries, hands-on classes, restaurants, cafes, and other attractive stores.

Keisoku-ji Temple is located in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, and is famous for its 200 maple trees. This ancient temple was built in 735 and was once prosperous and thriving. Although it is now abandoned, local residents still help maintain it. In autumn, the ground is covered with fallen red leaves, creating a spectacular sight that is truly unforgettable. This breathtaking scenery leaves a lasting impression.

Hikone Castle is one of the only five ancient castles in Japan whose main castle building has not been damaged. It is now included in the list of Japanese national treasures.

Right next to Kyobashi Bridge, which spans the moat of Hikone Castle. The townscape, which is unified in the style of townhouses with white walls and black latticework, is reminiscent of a castle town in the Edo period.

La Collina Omi Hachiman is a popular spot that should be visited at least once when traveling in Shiga. You can enjoy popular sweets in a photogenic space in perfect harmony with the rich natural surroundings.

Notogawa River Waterwheel and Canoe Land is the largest water mill in the Kansai area. A giant waterwheel with a diameter of 13 m is the landmark of this water park on the shores of Lake Ibauchi. There is a creek and a lawn area, and a reed colony zone.

In Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, "Hachimanbori" is a waterway that played an important role in ancient times as a means of transport and a place of living. The scenery handed down from the Azuchi-Momoyama period (16th to early 17th century) is still preserved.

"Biwako Valley" is located on a mountain at an altitude of approximately 1,100m on the shore of Lake Biwa. It is known for its ``Biwako Terrace'', a scenic spot with a panoramic view of Lake Biwa, but that's not the only attraction!

Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia) Avenue is a 2.4-kilometre-long boulevard planted with about 500 Metasequoia trees, which offers a variety of scenery throughout the seasons.

Yoshiwara Irie is called the Venice of Japan. The scenery along the canal, with fishing boats lined up behind houses, is popular among foreign visitors as a photo spot. The view from the bridge, which gives a sense of nostalgia, is a photo spot that makes you want to press the shutter button.

Amanohashidate is a pine-covered sandbar famous for having one of Japan's three scenic views, along with Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Miyajima  in Hiroshima Prefecture. This natural bridge links both sides of Miyazu Bay in northern Kyoto Prefecture, and is part of a national park. Amanohashidate translates to “bridge to heaven” because it appears to be a pathway connecting heaven and earth when viewed from the mountains that rise above it on either side.

Maizuru Port Tore Tore Center Roadside Rest Area is the largest seafood market and road rest area on the Sea of Japan side. Of course, the freshness, low price, and variety of fish are unparalleled in any other region.

Kumagawa-juku was built in 1589 as an ancient courier station to serve travelers between Kyoto and the Wakasa area in southern Fukui. It has been selected as an important area for the preservation of traditional buildings from the Edo to Showa eras and has become a famous tourist attraction.
