Jukusei Sushi Rita Namba Shinsaibashi is a reservation-only aged-sushi counter on the third floor of s-Front Dotonbori, with views over the Dotonbori River. It is the first branch of a popular jukusei sushi restaurant from Shin-Fukushima, Osaka, and the reason to come is the way the fish is handled: carefully aged to build deep sweetness and a silky, melt-in-the-mouth texture, then served over specially prepared sushi rice. It is a calm, serious counter, and a good place to spend an unhurried evening.

What it is

The restaurant opened on 1 May 2025, taking the aged-sushi idea that made its Shin-Fukushima original popular and bringing it to a new neighbourhood near Namba and Shinsaibashi. The philosophy is simple to state and slow to execute: making time your ally to achieve ultimate umami. Seasonal fish from across Japan is aged with care, a process that draws out deep sweetness and a texture that softens until it seems to dissolve.

That attention to time extends to the rice, which is specially prepared to meet the fish. The cooking is not fussy and it is not loud. It is the sort of sushi that rewards a quiet counter and a good palate, and the female chefs working in front of you make the craft visible without turning it into theatre.

What to order

There are four omakase courses to choose from, all built around the aged fish and the seasonal catch. The range runs from a weekday-limited dinner plan and a lunch-only plan up to a luxurious Ise lobster course, which serves the whole lobster in multiple styles.

Whichever course you take, the sake list is worth a look: there are 10 to 12 varieties, and wine pairings are available alongside. The pairing is the way to go if you want the meal to unfold gently rather than in a rush.

The room

The seating is all counter, 18 places in total — thirteen at the main counter and five in a private VIP counter that seats three to five guests — which keeps the room close and unfussy. It is the sort of room where the fish, the rice and the hands that shape them are the only entertainment.

The view is part of the charm: the third floor looks out over the Dotonbori River, and the light in the evening settles nicely across the water. Children are not admitted, which suits the tone of the room and the pace of the meal.

Getting there

The restaurant sits on the third floor of s-Front Dotonbori at 2-6-7 Nishishinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka 542-0086, looking out over the Dotonbori River. It is a short walk from both Namba and Shinsaibashi stations — around ten minutes on foot from Namba — and the last stretch passes through the busiest eating streets in the city.

There is no parking at the building, and the district is best reached by train or subway. Take the lift to the third floor and allow a few minutes to find the counter without hurrying.

Who it suits

This is a good fit for travellers who want a measured, counter-based meal rather than a quick bite, and who are happy to book ahead. It suits anyone curious about aged sushi and the way time changes the flavour of fish, and the room is intimate enough to feel special without being formal.

Couples and small groups will find it easy to settle here, though the seating is limited and the VIP counter is the better option if you want a little privacy. It is less suited to families, since children are not admitted.

  • Book your seats through TableCheck before you travel.
  • Ask about the weekday-limited dinner plan if you are dining Monday to Friday.
  • Save the lunch-only plan for a lighter midday meal.
  • Let the staff know if you would like the sake and wine pairing.
  • Allow time for the walk from Namba or Shinsaibashi Station.
  • Arrive by train or subway, as the building has no parking.
