Choosing Your West Kansai Tour Length

Six days in West Kansai suits travellers who want to move between several areas without rushing the mornings. The route has room for castle country and onsen time in the same trip: Takeda Castle, viewed from the nearby mountains on a misty morning, sits comfortably alongside a slower stay around Yumura Onsen. Himeji Castle, a Japanese National Treasure and World Heritage site, needs a proper half day rather than a quick stop. Our 5-day version keeps to fewer areas; the 7-day and 8-day versions add more places and a more relaxed pace, with longer pauses at stops such as the Kawaramachi Tsumairi Merchant House District and the rice terraces of Mt. Uhe. Private guiding means the pace is set around your group.

Tourist Attractions

The Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum is located in Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture that expands the dreams and hopes of young people into the future, based on the themes of "love of nature" and "respect for life" that Osamu Tezuka has always advocated.

Kawaramachi Tsumairi Merchant House District has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the Japanese government, and it still maintains a well-preserved historical landscape along a street of approximately 600 meters.

Takeda Castle was built in 1443 and was abandoned shortly after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. On misty mornings, when viewed from nearby mountains, it appears to be floating in the sky. That's why it is acclaimed as the "Machu Picchu of Japan" and the "Castle in the Sky."

Yumura Onsen, which was founded during the Heian Period (848 BCE), is a hot spring (onsen) in which nature and culture have remained intact from the olden days.

The rice terraces of Mt. Uhe have been selected as one of Japan's top 100 rice terraces.

Himeji Castle is also known as the White Heron Castle and is both a Japanese National Treasure and a World Heritage site. Its status as one of Japan's 12 remaining original castles makes this fortress a must for anyone interested in the history of Japan.

Kokoen Garden is an authentic Japanese garden with a view of Himeji Castle, a world heritage site, and is a popular place for sightseeing in Himeji.

Sumaura Sanjo Yuen Park  is located on top of Mount Sumaura, which stands at an elevation of 246 meters. The park boasts blooming flowers throughout the four seasons and offers picturesque views. From the observation deck, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the vast ocean in the distance, as well as the streets of Kobe and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. With numerous amusement facilities, it is a great place for family outings.

West Kansai Tour Length: Common Questions

Why choose the 6-day version rather than the 5-day?

Five days covers the core stops, but it leaves less slack between them. The extra day lets you keep Takeda Castle's misty morning viewpoint, Himeji Castle and an onsen stay in one trip without long transfers crowding the schedule. Groups that want a steady pace rather than a tight one tend to prefer this length.

What do the 7-day and 8-day versions add?

The longer versions add more places and a more relaxed pace. With two extra days there is room to slow down at stops like the Kawaramachi Tsumairi Merchant House District or the rice terraces of Mt. Uhe, rather than passing through. If your group has specific interests, the wider route gives more chances to shape the trip around them.

Who does the 6-day tour suit?

It suits travellers who want a mix of castle visits, town walks and onsen time, and who prefer not to change location every day. Families and small groups with a fixed week of leave often find this length workable. Anyone wanting a slower pace or more places should look at the 7-day and 8-day options.
