Tourist Attractions

One of the best places to experience Japanese history in the Kanto region is Sawara, also known as Koedo, or Little Edo. You'll find the atmosphere of Japan's Edo period (1603-1867) with its old buildings, traditional crafts, and living history.

Kairakuen is one of the most popular attractions in Ibaraki Prefecture. It was created in 1842 by the ninth lord of the Mito domain, Tokugawa Nariaki. Like a modern public park, the garden was designed not only for the feudal lord and his warriors to enjoy, but also for the public. It is one of the three most famous gardens in Japan, along with Kenrokuen  in Kanazawa (Ishikawa Prefecture ) and Korakuen  in Okayama Prefecture .

Officially called Amabikisan Rakuho-ji, Amabiki Kannon Temple is dedicated to the goddess of safe childbirth, child-rearing, and protection from bad luck. Amabiki Kannon refers to the statue of the goddess at the temple. The temple is known for its beautiful grounds, which feature cherry blossoms, peonies, azaleas, and hydrangea flowers, depending on the season. Of course, autumn welcomes the sight of striking foliage. There is also a small souvenir shop where you can purchase a memento of your visit.

Nasu Highlands Rindou Lake - There's a lake, a ranch, rides, and plenty of other fun things to do! You can interact with lots of animals, including alpacas, goats, and cows, eat delicious homemade dairy products, and participate in heartwarming animal events. The zip line, KAKKU, is a very popular ride! Adults and children alike can have fun at the ranch park!

Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura is a theme park dedicated to bringing visitors the culture and atmosphere of the Edo period (1603-1867). The park recreates a small Edo town with actors and actresses playing roles for attractions, restaurants, and services. The recreated town has been highly praised for its attention to detail and has served as settings for many TV dramas.

The 28-meter-long Shinkyo Bridge serves as the sacred entrance to Nikko. The structure is known as one of the top three bridges in the country, and the vermilion-lacquered arch surrounded by lush foliage and a serene river makes for a stunning photo.

Nikko Toshogu Shrine enshrines the most famous samurai leader Tokugawa Ieyasu. Its carved and brilliantly decorated structures are part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko UNESCO World Heritage site and the highlight of any visit to Tochigi.

97 Metres high, Kegon Falls has been designated one of Japan’s Three Most Beautiful Waterfalls

Lake Chuzenji is Japan's highest-elevation natural lake, located just west of Nikko. The area's altitude and stunning scenery draw visitors looking to escape the humid Japanese summers. It's also popular in the fall for its incredible autumn leaves. The area is a part of Nikko National Park.

Fukiware Falls - Gradual erosion of the rocks for more than 10,000 years has led to the creation of these spectacular falls. The seven-meter high and 30-meter wide waterfalls merge to form a V shape. As you walk the paths beside the streams leading to these falls, you will feel as though all the water is going down into a large drain. Make your way to the suspension bridge to get the best perspective of the area.

Mt. Seiryu Kichijoji Temple - A renowned Buddhist temple established during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period. The mountain gate, built in the irimoya-zukuri style, is adorned with elegant carvings, and the upper floor houses exquisitely crafted statues of the Sixteen Arhats. The temple grounds have been transformed into the Jixiang Temple Hundred Flowers Garden, and it is also known as the "Temple of Flowers."

Home of Fruits Harada Farm is open year-round for visitors to pick fruits. Depending on the season, you can pick cherries, peaches, grapes, or apples. In winter, you can pick delicious and juicy strawberries.

Lock Heart Castle - Japan's first European castle moved to Japan from Europe. This is a filming location for Japanese dramas such as "The Wallflower", "Atashinchi no Danshi", "Kindaichi Shonen Chronicles", etc. It is also a popular location for many movies, advertisements, popular magazines, etc.! The beautiful castle park is dotted with stone churches, museums, restaurants, and shops, recreating the European street scene. You can also wear medieval court costumes to enjoy a different luxury experience.

The Kawagoe Warehouse District is known as Koedo Kawagoe, or “Little Edo”. One reason for this name is its preservation of culture and buildings from Edo-era Japan.
