Choosing Your Henan Tour Length
This five-day private tour covers the core of Henan at a steady pace, with time to look around rather than rush between stops. It suits travellers who want Zhengzhou and Luoyang in one trip and are comfortable with a moderately full schedule. In Zhengzhou you can visit the Henan Museum, home to the Jiahu Bone Flute and the Fu Hao Owl Zun, then spend a morning at Shaolin Temple on Mount Song, watching monk performances and walking the Pagoda Forest and Dharma Cave. Luoyang adds the Longmen Grottoes and its peony-season streets. Our six-, seven- and eight-day Henan versions cover the same ground with more places added and a more relaxed pace, so the five-day works well for a first visit with limited time, while longer stays give more room around each site.
Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, is a historic city with Yellow River scenery and Shang Dynasty ruins. Visit the Erqi Memorial Tower for revolutionary history or Shaolin Temple for martial arts. A blend of modernity and tradition, with rich culture and cuisine.
Henan Museum, a treasure trove of Chinese civilization! Housing 170,000 artifacts, from Shang Dynasty bronzes to Tang-Song ceramics, it traces 5,000 years of history. Don’t miss the iconic Jiahu Bone Flute and Fu Hao Owl Zun—essential for culture enthusiasts.
Erqi Square, the heart of Zhengzhou! Commemorating the 1923 Jinghan Railway Strike, the towering Erqi Memorial Tower stands as a city icon. Surrounded by bustling shopping districts, it blends history with modernity, offering vibrant energy day and night.
Shaolin Temple on Mount Song, the birthplace of Kung Fu! Nestled in the mountains, this ancient temple blends martial arts with Zen. Witness monk performances, explore the Pagoda Forest and Dharma Cave, and embrace the legend of "The First Temple Under Heaven."
Luoyang, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties and the City of Peonies! The Longmen Grottoes’ millennia-old Buddha statues awe, while White Horse Temple marks Buddhism’s arrival in China. Stroll the old town, savor "Water Banquet" cuisine, and embrace history’s poetic charm.
Longmen Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! This millennia-old Buddhist art treasury, nestled along the Yi River, features over 100,000 statues whispering Tang Dynasty glory. The serene smile of the Vairocana Buddha is a timeless marvel.
Yingtianmen, the glorious symbol of Sui-Tang Luoyang! Once the sacred site for imperial ceremonies, its restored gate now stands majestic. The nighttime light show revives the Tang Dynasty’s splendor, a dreamy portal to ancient grandeur.
Tiantang and Mingtang, symbols of Empress Wu Zetian's power! The pinnacle of Tang Dynasty royal architecture, with Tiantang towering skyward and Mingtang radiating grandeur. Lit by night, they revive the Tang's glory - a must-visit historic landmark in Luoyang.
Jiuzhou Pool, the gem of Sui-Tang imperial gardens! Once an emperor’s paradise for feasts, it now revives pavilions and shimmering waters. Stroll through to step into the Tang Dynasty’s opulence and poetic charm.
Laojun Mountain, a sacred Taoist paradise above the clouds! With emerald peaks and golden temples piercing the sky, its sunrise sea of clouds is surreal. Hike to the summit for the awe-inspiring "Peerless Holy Land" aura.
Luoyi Ancient City, a Tang Dynasty revival! Restored streets, palaces, and markets glow at night, transporting you to Chang’an. Hanfu dress-up and cultural performances bring history to life.
Lijing Gate, the iconic soul of Luoyang’s ancient city! Built in the Sui-Tang era, this majestic gate has witnessed millennia of history. Climb for panoramic views, or admire its night glow—a Tang Dynasty revival.
Cross Street, Luoyang’s culinary paradise! This ancient alley brims with Henan’s street food—from "Bu Fan Soup" to braised noodles. Lit by neon at night, it’s a bustling haven for food lovers.
White Horse Temple, Buddhism’s first sanctuary in China! Founded in the Eastern Han Dynasty, its chants echo through millennia. With Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Burmese halls, it’s a crossroads of cultures. Stroll and embrace the serenity of the "Cradle of Buddhism."
Luoyang Museum, a treasure trove of 13 dynasties! Housing over 10,000 artifacts - from Xia-Shang bronzes to Tang tri-color glazes - it unveils 5,000 years of history. Don’t miss the iconic "Stone Bixie" and "Cao Wei Jade Cup."
Zhenwei Water Town, a romantic gem from the "Book of Songs"! Celebrated in ancient poetry, it revives its charm with boat rides on the Zhenwei River and cobblestone lanes—timeless allure of "By the Waterside."
Jianye Movie Town, a cinematic time-travel playground! Vintage streets recreate Old Shanghai and Republic-era charm, with immersive theaters and film set adventures. At night, lanterns ignite a golden-age dreamscape.
Henan Tour Length: Common Questions
Why not take a shorter tour?
There is no shorter version in our Henan series than five days. The itinerary already fits Zhengzhou's Erqi Square and Henan Museum alongside Shaolin Temple on Mount Song and the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang in one trip, so squeezing further would mean dropping one of those stops.
Why not extend to six, seven or eight days?
The longer Henan versions add more places and a more relaxed pace, which suits travellers who prefer fewer hours moving between sites. If your dates are fixed at five days, this itinerary still covers Zhengzhou and Luoyang with the Erqi Memorial Tower, Shaolin Temple and the Longmen Grottoes, and leaves the extra stops for a return trip.
Who is this five-day tour designed for?
It suits first-time visitors to Henan and travellers with a fixed five-day window who want Zhengzhou's museum and city sights plus Shaolin Temple and Luoyang in one trip. The pace is steady with a moderate amount of travel, so it works for couples, families with older children and small private groups.
