Stockholm Private Tour: Archipelago, Drottningholm and Uppsala
Stockholm is built on fourteen islands, and the water is the city — but the archipelago, Drottningholm and Uppsala all need a car or a boat to reach properly.
Charter or private tour
Charter: car and driver, plus boat where the archipelago is involved. Private tour: adds a guide for the Vasa museum and Drottningholm.
Drive times
- Arlanda Airport to the centre: about 40 minutes.
- Stockholm to Drottningholm palace: about 30 minutes.
- Stockholm to Uppsala: about 1 hour.
- Stockholm to Gothenburg: about 4 hours 30 minutes.
Three days that work
City, 1 day: Gamla Stan, the Vasa museum, Skansen, a ferry between islands.
Archipelago, 1 day: boat out to Vaxholm or Sandhamn, lunch on the water.
Drottningholm or Uppsala, 1 day: the palace theatre and gardens, or the university town and Gamla Uppsala mounds.
Season
June to August for the archipelago and long light. September is quieter and still mild. Winter is dark; the Christmas markets are in December.
Practical notes
Many archipelago boats run only in summer. Old town streets are cobbled and narrow — the car handles transfers, not sightseeing.
