Paris Private Tour: City, Versailles and Giverny by Private Car

Paris is compact but the day trips around it are not, and that is where a private car changes the trip: Versailles, Giverny and Reims are all awkward by train and simple by road.

Charter or private tour

Charter means car and driver, your own stops. Private tour adds a guide who can walk you through the palace instead of leaving you at the gate.

Drive times that matter

  • CDG Airport to central Paris: about 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Paris to Versailles: about 45 minutes.
  • Paris to Giverny (Monet's garden): about 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Paris to Reims champagne cellars: about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Three ways to spend the days

City, 2 days: Louvre, Orsay, Notre-Dame island, Montmartre, a Seine walk at dusk.
Versailles, 1 day: palace, gardens, the Trianon, and the town market.
Outside Paris, 1 day: Giverny in season, or Reims with two cellar visits.

Season

April to June and September to October are the comfortable months. July and August are hot and crowded; many restaurants close in August.

Practical notes

Central Paris traffic is slow and parking is scarce — the car earns its keep on day trips, not for hopping between Louvre and Montmartre. We plan the city days on foot plus metro where faster.

FAQ

Is Versailles doable in half a day? The palace yes, the gardens and Trianon need a full day.

Can you pick up at CDG? Yes, airport pickup is standard.

Do we need a guide inside the Louvre? Not required; a guide pays off at Versailles and in the smaller museums.
