Netherlands Private Tour and Charter: Amsterdam, Tulips and the Delta

The Netherlands is small enough to cross in two hours and dense enough that you could spend a week without repeating a landscape: canals, windmills, tulip fields, the Delta works, and villages that look like they were built for a photograph.

包車 — charter, car and driver

A charter takes you out of Amsterdam to the places the trains skip: Kinderdijk's windmills, Giethoorn's canals, the Keukenhof fields in season, the Delta works in Zeeland, and the cheese towns of Alkmaar and Gouda on market days.

包團 — private tour, the route planned too

A private tour adds hotels on the canals rather than by the ring road, museum slots that need booking weeks ahead, and a route that keeps driving days under an hour. The Netherlands rewards slow travel: the distances are short and the pleasure is in stopping.

Routes that work

  • 4 days: Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans, Volendam and Marken — the classic loop.
  • 7 days: add Giethoorn, Kinderdijk and the Hague or Delft.
  • 10 days: add Zeeland's Delta works and Maastricht in the south.

Getting around

Amsterdam to Giethoorn is about an hour and a half by road. Amsterdam to Kinderdijk roughly an hour and a quarter. Amsterdam to the Hague about an hour. Keukenhof is roughly forty minutes from the city in season.

When to come

April and May for the tulips and the Keukenhof gardens; June to September for the coast and the long evenings. Winter is quiet, cold and good for museums. King's Day at the end of April turns Amsterdam orange and closes the centre to cars.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a car in Amsterdam?

No. Trams and bicycles do the city better than any car, and parking is expensive. The car starts outside the ring.

When exactly are the tulips out?

Roughly mid-April to early May for the fields; the Keukenhof garden season runs about eight weeks from late March.

Is Giethoorn worth the drive?

Yes, early or late. It is small, and between eleven and four in summer it is busy with tour boats.

Can we see the Delta works?

Yes, as a day from Rotterdam or a stop between Amsterdam and Zeeland. It is engineering on a scale that surprises most visitors.

Do your drivers speak English or Chinese?

We match the driver to the party. Tell us the language you need when you ask.

Planning this as a private trip?

Tell us your dates, how many nights, and who is travelling. We will send a route outline with measured driving times, free of charge.
