Hokkaido Private Tour: Sapporo, Otaru, Furano and Niseko
Hokkaido is Japan's northern island and the one place where a car changes the trip completely: distances are long, trains are sparse, and the best stops sit between stations.
Charter or private tour
Charter: vehicle and driver, your own stops. Private tour: adds a guide and a planned route. One party per vehicle either way.
Four regions, four trips
- Central: Sapporo, Otaru, Furano and Biei. Sapporo to Otaru is 40 minutes by road; Sapporo to Furano about 2 hours.
- South: Hakodate, Lake Toya, Noboribetsu. New Chitose to Noboribetsu is about 1 hour 20 minutes.
- East: Kushiro, Abashiri, the Shiretoko peninsula — the wildest coast, long drives.
- North: Asahikawa, Wakkanai, Soya — Japan's northern tip.
Seasons
February for snow and the Sapporo Snow Festival; June for lavender in Furano; September for autumn colour; January and February for Niseko powder.
Practical notes
Winter driving needs snow tyres and a driver used to ice — we provide both. Many rural restaurants close early; we plan meal stops into the route.
FAQ
Do we need a car in Sapporo? The city itself is walkable and has a metro; a car matters once you leave for Otaru, Furano or the national parks.
Can you pick up at New Chitose Airport? Yes, airport pickup is the usual start.
Is winter driving safe? With snow tyres and a local driver, yes; we do not hand over self-drive in winter.
How long to Furano and Biei? A comfortable day trip from Sapporo, or stay overnight in Furano.
Can we combine with Tokyo? Flying Haneda to New Chitose takes about 1 hour 30 minutes; the Shinkansen to Hakodate is about 4 hours from Tokyo.
