Dinso Resort & Villas Phuket, Vignette Collection: A Hillside Retreat Above Patong

Dinso Resort & Villas Phuket, Vignette Collection: A Hillside Retreat Above Patong

Dinso Resort & Villas Phuket is a 174-room resort built into a forested hillside above Patong, part of IHG's Vignette Collection. It sits 1.8 km from Patong Beach and 1.1 km from Jungceylon shopping centre — close enough to walk into town, far enough that the noise never reaches the pool. Entry-level rooms are 33 m²; the largest Duplex Pool Villas run to 112 m² with a private plunge pool and an outdoor bath. Rates start at around HK$1,497 per night.

The name is the first thing worth knowing. Dinso comes from din sor pong — the soft white clay traditionally used in Thai and Khmer temple construction. Every Vignette Collection property is required to offer one signature "Memorable Ritual" tied to its own identity, and here it is a clay workshop: guests press real leaves and flowers gathered from the resort grounds into the clay and take the resulting keepsake home. It is a small thing, and it tells you what kind of hotel this is trying to be.

Where it is

The address is 117 Nanai Road, Patong, on the western side of Phuket. Distances, all walkable but not all comfortable in the midday heat:

  • Jungceylon Shopping Centre — 1.1 km
  • Bangla Walking Street — 1.3 km
  • Patong Beach — 1.8 km

That geometry is the whole pitch. Patong is Phuket's busiest beach town — the shopping, the restaurants and the nightlife are all within two kilometres — but the resort itself is up on a slope behind the built-up strip, which is why the first impression is birdsong rather than traffic.

The trade-off is honest: this is not a beachfront hotel, and the hill is real. Getting down to the sand means a walk, a taxi or the resort's own transport. If your idea of Phuket is stepping from your room onto the beach, book elsewhere.

The rooms

Accommodation runs from a 33 m² Deluxe Room (City View or Pool View) up to the 112 m² Duplex Pool Villa, with suites in between. The villas are the reason most people consider Dinso:

  • Two storeys — bedroom and bathroom on the lower level, terrace and sunbeds above
  • A private plunge pool, screened by greenery
  • An outdoor bath framed in bamboo on the upper deck
  • A glazed ceiling over the shower, which makes it feel like bathing outdoors

Bathroom amenities throughout are Karl Lagerfeld, which is a genuine detail rather than a marketing line — it is the same brand the group uses across the Vignette properties.

A word on the standard rooms, since most guests will actually book one: at 33 m² they are comfortable rather than generous, and the difference in feel between a Deluxe Room and a Villa is larger than the difference in price sometimes suggests. If the private pool matters to you, the step up is worth taking — the villas are the property's strongest asset.

Pools, spa and children

There are two main pools set into the gardens, both surrounded by loungers and shade rather than laid out as a spectacle. Complimentary snacks — fruit, popcorn — circulate poolside during the day, and in the evening the forest bar runs a buy-one-get-one cocktail hour, which is a considerably more civilised option than fighting the crowds in town.

This is also a more family-friendly property than its honeymoon reputation suggests. There is a proper kids' club stocked with toys and play equipment, and the resort is currently adding a new collection of one-to-three-bedroom duplex villas explicitly designed for families and groups who want shared space with separate corners.

The spa is a full treatment facility rather than a pair of rooms, which matters on a beach holiday where sunburn and long flights are the main complaints.

Eating

Breakfast is a generous international spread served with a live egg station, hot noodles and Thai dishes alongside the usual bakery and cheese counter — the resort takes a lot of international guests, and it shows. There is an open-air restaurant pavilion looking out over the hills, and a second European-leaning restaurant on site. Dinner at the hotel is worth doing at least once; for the rest, Patong's restaurants are ten minutes away.

What it costs

Reference price: from around HK$1,497 per night (2026, varying by season and room type)

Phuket has a pronounced season. Rates are lowest in the monsoon months (roughly May to October) and climb steeply between December and March, when the island fills with European winter traffic. The Duplex Pool Villas in high season run several times the entry-level rate — if a villa is the point of the trip, book it early rather than hoping for a late discount.

IHG One Rewards members get member rates on both rooms and dining here, which is worth two minutes of signing up before you book. As always, the same room can differ by a meaningful amount between booking channels, so it is worth comparing.

What to know before you book

Three honest caveats.

It is a hillside resort, not a beach resort. Patong Beach is 1.8 km away. The resort sits above town, and while the setting is the reason to stay, it does mean every beach trip is a journey rather than a stroll.

Service reviews are genuinely mixed. The property carries strong ratings overall and a large number of very positive stays, but there are also detailed complaints about service consistency and about rooms that felt standard for the price. Read recent reviews for your dates rather than the overall score.

The entry-level rooms are compact. At 33 m² the Deluxe Rooms are fine for a couple on a short stay; for anything longer, or for a family, the suites and villas are worth the step up.

Putting Dinso Resort & Villas Phuket into your itinerary

A hillside base above Patong works well with a short Phuket circuit — beach days, the old town, and a boat day into the bay.

1 day — Patong Beach and Bangla Road at dusk, with Jungceylon for the afternoon.

2 days — Phuket Old Town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses, Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha on the Nakkerd hills.

3 days — A boat day among the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay, ending at Promthep Cape for the sunset.

We can arrange this as a private itinerary, with a car and a private guide. WhatsApp us.
