Getting around

Madrid to Toledo is about an hour by road. Madrid to Seville roughly two and a half hours by train. Seville to Granada about two and a half hours by road. Granada to Barcelona is a flight of an hour and a half.

When to come

March to June and September to October for Andalusia; July and August are very hot inland. The north is best in summer, when the south is unbearable. Semana Santa and the April fairs fill Seville.

How far ahead do Alhambra tickets sell out?

Weeks, sometimes months in spring and autumn. It is the one booking that shapes a Granada itinerary.

Can we do Madrid and Barcelona in one trip?

Yes — two and a half hours by train. Most people add Seville between them.

Is Andalusia too hot in summer?

Seville regularly passes 40°C in July and August. It is manageable with early starts and a siesta, but spring and autumn are far better.
