Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba recreates a thatched-roof village where you can watch craftspeople work and try local food.

Lakes, observatories and river valleys
Lake Suwa in Nagano draws visitors year-round. Winter brings the "God's Crossing" ice phenomenon, while summer features fireworks over the water. Autumn colours line the shore and local onsen towns sit close to the lakeside.
SORA terrace is a cloud-sea observatory cafe at 1,770 metres in the Shiga Highlands. Morning clouds often fill the valley below, and sunset turns the sky into layers of colour. The site sits above 1,700 metres, so temperatures drop noticeably even in summer.
Chestnut towns, art and winter villages
Obuse Town blends art and gastronomy as Nagano's "Chestnut Capital." Edo-style streets lead past chestnut desserts and galleries holding Hokusai's masterpieces. It is a compact town where you can walk the main lanes in an afternoon.
The Great Ginkgo of Iiyama stands 36 metres tall with more than 500 years of history. As a Natural Monument, its golden leaves paint the village each autumn. In winter, "Kamakura no Sato" in Nagano lights up snow huts for traditional snow culture and local dishes on cold nights.
