Tourist Attractions

Hitoyoshi Rail Museum Mozoca Station 868 - As a cultural heritage in Japanese railway history, the railway museum created by Mr. Eiji Mitooka stands out. MOZOCA (もぞか) is a term in the Hitoyoshi dialect, meaning "small" and "cute." The shrine complex of Aoi Aso Shrine is the fifth national treasure in Kyushu and the southernmost national treasure in Japan. It is also the first cultural property in Kumamoto Prefecture to be designated as a national treasure. Kajiyamachi-dori Street - This street retains the charm of the castle town of Hitoyoshi, with its picturesque cobblestone paths and white-walled merchant houses. Sengan-en - A beautiful Shimazu family villa with a garden overlooking the majestic Sakurajima. Kirimoto Shrine is located on the slopes of Mount Kirishima, facing the peak of Takachiho. The architectural design, which takes advantage of the variations in terrain, as well as the lavish decorations, has been highly praised by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 2022, it was officially designated as a national treasure.

The flower beds by Lake Ikeda are adorned with a variety of flowers that bloom throughout the four seasons, captivating many with their vibrant colors. The collaboration between these flowers and the majestic Mount Kaimon, which stands across Lake Ikeda, is truly enchanting.

Karakamiya Somen Nagashi - As the birthplace of the rotating Somen Nagashi, it now attracts approximately 200,000 visitors annually from across the country.

Kawajiri Coast is revered as a hidden gem in Ibusuki City. Here, visitors can enjoy the magnificent scenery where Mount Kaimon and the sunset intertwine. The beach is scattered with tiny green olivine stones, which contain components similar to meteorites, and are also known as "stones of bonds."

Sakurajima is composed of two parts, Kitadake (North Peak) and Minamidake (South Peak), and it is a complex active volcano that serves as a symbol of Kagoshima. This volcano continues to emit smoke and ash, which is quite rare worldwide.

At Ikoma Plateau, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Kirishima and Kyushu mountain ranges. Due to the vibrant and colorful flowers that cover the plateau from spring to autumn, it is also known as the "Flower Platform."

Takachiho Farm is located at the foot of the majestic Kirishima mountain range, offering a close encounter with cows, horses, and sheep in a natural environment. It is a tourist destination and ranch where visitors can enjoy interacting with animals. There is a peculiar rock formation that extends towards the sea, surrounding Aoshima. When viewed from a distance, it resembles a giant washboard, earning it the name "Devil's Washboard ".

Obi Castle Ruins - A castle town that preserves traditional Japanese streetscapes in the vicinity of the castle.

Obi Castle Ruins - A castle town that preserves traditional Japanese streetscapes in the vicinity of the castle. Inside the park, you can also find a rare insect exhibition from around the world and panels directly authorized by UNESCO. There are butterfly ground drawings, shops, restaurants, and fast food options available as well.

In the past, the Mimitsu area was a prosperous port town, earning it the nickname "Mimitsu Senken" or "One Thousand Buildings of Mimitsu." It served as an important hub for cultural exchange and commercial transactions between Hyuga City and Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. The "Sea-cruz" is named after its distinctive feature where columnar rocks have been eroded by the waves. These rocks have split in such a way that they resemble a cross shape, extending approximately 200 meters east-west and 220 meters north-south, with a height of 10 meters. Togenka Misaki is famous for its picturesque setting against the backdrop of the sea and its stunning hydrangea scenery. Usuki Stone Buddhas (Cliff Carvings) is a national treasure located in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture. Approximately 90,000 years ago, during the volcanic eruption of Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture, lava and volcanic ash solidified. Later, people carved over 60 Buddha statues on this land.
